Jillian McLeod

Jillian McLeod came to Western Mass in 2002 for a job as a professor of Mathematics at Mount Holyoke College. She lived in faculty housing for a few years and then decided to look for a home to purchase. She looked at houses in South Hadley and South Amherst as well as Springfield, and decided that Springfield offered more diversity and heterogeneity than other communities. Jillian was thrilled to find that Springfield is a perfect fit for her.

She has found a wonderful sense of community life in her neighborhood and her church and thinks Forest Park is the best outdoor location in all of Western Mass. For arts and entertainment, Jillian enjoys the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the summer Hoop City Jazz Festival. She likes being so close to Bradley International Airport, and she loves the quick drive to Hartford, where she takes dance classes. Jillian likes to hang out at the Starbuck’s Coffee downtown, and looks forward to getting more plugged in to social and civic networks in the city.

Her advice to those considering a move to Springfield? Take your time, look around. There are lots of amazing houses and great energy here. There are many people trying to build a positive community.
